A-Level Success 2024

2nd September 2024

A-Level Results Day

St Killian’s College students have been celebrating examination success at A level. This year’s outcomes highlight again the fact that non-selective education continues to deliver excellent results for all students in our community. Those students who sat their exams in 2024, as Examination Boards returned to pre-pandemic levels, deserve special praise for their hard work, resilience and success as examination boards returned to pre-pandemic levels.

Almost 1/3 of our A Level students achieved 3 top grades (A*-B) including at least 1 A* or A. College Principal, Jonny Brady, noted that excellent results were achieved in both the STEM and Arts subjects. He said: “This highlights the success the college has in delivering a broad range of educational pathways to develop the interests and talents of all our students, providing them with the academic results and key life skills to confidently contribute to our society and growing economy. With university places in high demand this academic year, we are pleased that, with the help, advice and guidance of the college’s career department, the vast majority of our students have gained entry to their chosen courses. Indeed, at the time we go to press, the majority of our students have secured their place at third level while others have taken advantage of much sought after apprenticeships.”

Once again there were a number of students who achieved the top grades, Niall Hynds (3A*), Molly O’Neill (2A* 1A), David Murray (1A* 2 A), Lena Harvey (3 A), Maeve Lalsingh (3A), Emma Martin (3A) and Abi McNeill (3A). While the following students achieved 3 top grades including either 1 A* or 2 As: Kate Clerkin, Catie McAleese, Orlaith McAlister, Cormac McKeown, Leah O’Boyle, Dara McCollam, Niamh Reid, Aisling Mulholland, Aoibhin McKenna, Emer McMullan, Erin McKeegan, Erin McVeigh, Maeve O’Donnell, Maia McQuillan and Niall Okasha.

Our Head Girl and Boy both did exceedingly well by achieving 5 A grades between them. Lena Harvey will go on to study Pharmacy at Queens University Belfast and Dara McCollam, will study Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Queens University.

This year our AS students have also produced another good set of results, which augurs well for next year’s A2. There is a bright future ahead for those students.

Mr Brady was delighted at the success of the students across a wide range of subjects and stated, “It is gratifying, given the additional challenges our students faced, to see so many of our young people achieving so well in these public exams. This is down to the hard work, commitment and dedication of all our staff and students, and we are all rightly proud of all our students. The college, once again, has demonstrated consistency in delivering high quality learning and teaching. On behalf of everyone here at the college I would wish all of our young people the very best in their future and thank our parents for their continued support.”
