GCSE Success

13th September 2022

St Killian’s College students have once again been celebrating examination success at GCSE level. As with our superb A Level results last week, our students’ GCSE outcomes highlight the fact that non-selective education continues to deliver excellent results for all the students in our community. The students who sat their exams in 2022, in post pandemic circumstances, deserve special praise for their resilience and success in such extraordinary times.

95% of students achieved 5 A*-C with 62% of the total grades awarded at A level courses were A*/B grade. Furthermore, we are proud that 71% of students attained 7+ A* - C grades including English and Maths.

Our top achievers include Molly McNeill with 10 A*, Lena Harvey 9 A*, Niall Hynds 8A* 2A, David Murray 7 A* 3A, Kate Clerkin 5A* 5A, Abbi McNeill 4A* 6A, Orlaigh McCurry 5A* 4 A, Orlaigh McAlister 4A* 5A, Maeve Lalsingh 6A* 2A, Caoimhe Morgan 3A* 6A, Erin McKeegan 1A* 8 A, Amy McMullan 1A* 9A and Luke Sittlington 1A* 7A.

As with last week’s A Level students, all of our GCSE students deserve to be given great praise and acknowledgement for having been able to come through the unprecedented challenges they faced in 2021/22. Many of our students experienced, on top of the two lockdowns, further enforced absences, due to COVID with both pupils and teachers off sick for various times. All of our students have displayed life skills in resilience and determination which will undoubtedly ensure that they will be able to meet and overcome many future challenges.

These results are a credit to their parents and the staff in school. However, most of all, they are credit to our students and they should be rightly proud as we are. The commitment and hard work of our students and the dedication of our staff, as well as the support that we enjoy with our parents will augur well for the future of all of our students wherever they find themselves in the future.

Principal Mr Jonny Brady expressed his delight with another excellent set of results at St Killian’s.

“The results have, once again, been outstanding. Of the 130 students who sat their GCSEs 95% achieved 5 A*-C grades. However, for me the most significant statistic is that 71% of our students attained these grades including English and Maths A*-C. These grades represent a significant success for our students and unsurprisingly are well above the N.I. average. This group of students has achieved so well and under such circumstances that we, at St Killian’s, are rightly proud of them all.

On behalf of the College, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our students on their superb achievements and I am looking forward to ensuring their future success when they return at post 16.”
