Overview

MVRUS helps pupils develop as an informed and responsible road user. It gives pupils the opportunity to progress to vocational training and employment.

Why Study MVRUS?

  • To gain an interest and appreciation of the motor vehicle

  • To acquire the skills and knowledge needed for the use of a powered vehicle

  • To develop an understanding of the mathematical, scientific and tec hnological principle of motor vehicles and to acquire a range of manipulative and communicative skills

Key Stage 4 Information

MVRUS GCSE consists of three areas of study.

Unit 1 is the theoretical component which is assessed in a 1hr 45min written examination worth 50% of the qualification. Pupils will study the legal requirements of driving, the Highway Code, driving in adverse conditions, physical and mental fitness of the driver, causes and prevention of traffic collisions, safety requirements of vehicles, development of the modern road traffic system and traffic management, traffic pollution, costs of purchasing, running and maintaining a vehicle and the components of cars and motorcycles.

Unit 2 is the Investigative Study, worth 25% of the qualification. This is a research and written report on a moving traffic situation.

Unit 3 is the practical riding component worth 25% of the qualification. Pupils will learn to carry out daily checks and demonstrate practical riding skills on a moped.
